VM Justin commits expansion of Community Learning Hubs in all Himamaylan barangays
Being a true-blooded and spirited educator, Vice-Mayor Justin Dominic Gatuslao commits to the establishment of Community Learning Hubs (HLCs) in all barangays of Himamaylan City, to foster learning and ease of access to education.
The Community Learning Hubs, which are the extension of the Himamaylan City Public Library (HCPL), offer free access to the internet, free use of gadgets and free printing of learning materials for Himamaylanon students and young ones. The youth also enjoy free tutorial and remedial services from the scholars of the city, particularly those who are taking Education courses in various academic institutions.
The city scholars are trained by Angat Buhay, a non-government organization that inspires hope and bayanihan by harnessing the energies of their partners, volunteers and supporters to empower the community, especially the marginalized.
The HLC was initially established in seven pilot areas, with practically no access to internet and cellular phone services. Assessment to pilot schools revealed that there was a 25% decrease in the number of non-readers and even those who have already learned how to read still sit-in the lectures to learn more.
VM Justin, our #EducatorViceMayor, visualizes spreading this infrastructure even to the farthest barangays to make learning available to all Himamaylanon children, armed with a mission that no child will be left behind in terms of education.
The HLC enjoys the full support of Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson and the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Himamaylan.*
