Decades later, in 1993, a new Municipal Library opened under Mayor Luz R. Bayot.

The 82-square-meter space held 1,046 books from the National Library, local donations, and city funds. Its new Library In-Charge, Mrs. Mariter Ortiz, had trained through seminars of the National Library of the Philippines and the Association of Librarians in Public Sector.

Her organization and cataloging skills gave order and flow to the growing collection.

What began as a modest reading room had now become a steadyplace for learning and discovery in Himamaylan.
