By 1956, under Mayor Jose Gatuslao, the Himamaylan Library began to grow beyond its first room.
The city’s first librarian, Mrs. Amanda Gimotea, traveled to The National Library in Manila to collect the books allocated for Himamaylan. Each box she brought home meant new subjects, new authors, and new ideas. Soon, the library even opened a periodicals section, displaying national papers like Bulletin Today and Daily Express, plus local magazines subscribed by the municipal government.
It was one of the earliest local reading spaces of its kind—a proud milestone for a small but ambitious community of readers. 🧡🧡🧡
