In 1956, under Mayor Jose Gatuslao, the city’s first librarian, Mrs. Amanda Gimotea, traveled to The National Library in Manila to collect the books allocated for Himamaylan. Each box she brought home meant new subjects, new authors, and new ideas. The collection grew, and more readers found something they loved.
